Bassarabescu apar\u0163ine \u2013 \u00een \u00eentregimea ei \u2013 de mult Istoriei literaturii \u015fi antologiilor rom\u00e2ne. Scriitorul, care acum patruzeci de ani a minunat pe Duiliu Zamfirescu cu prima sa nuvel\u0103 \u201eEma\u201d \u015fi a intrat \u00een 1909 \u00een Academie, \u00een urma raportului acestuia \u015fi a sugestiei date de Titu Maiorescu, n-are nevoie ast\u0103zi de nicio recomanda\u0163ie.<\/p>\n<p>Laureat din anul 1930 al premiului na\u0163ional pentru proz\u0103, d-sa e un clasic \u015fi pre\u0163uit de \u00eentreaga opinie a lumii noastre intelectuale.<\/p>\n<p>F\u0103r\u0103 s\u0103 fac deci o biografie propriu \u2013 zis\u0103, urm\u0103resc aici s\u0103 desprind din opera scriitorului consacrat doar partea care m\u0103 intereseaz\u0103: umorul; s\u0103 cercetez din ce izvor eman\u0103 acele buc\u0103\u0163i de fin\u0103 ironie, unde spiritul de observa\u0163ie al autorului se \u00eembin\u0103 a\u015fa de firesc cu hazul de esen\u0163\u0103 aleas\u0103, de care d. I. A. Bassarabescu d\u0103 str\u0103lucite dovezi.<\/p>\n<p>Iat\u0103 ce am putut culege \u00een privin\u0163a aceasta:<\/p>\n<p>\u00cen familia maestrului, \u00een care el era penultimul dintre copii, to\u0163i membrii erau buni \u015fi \u00een\u0163eleg\u0103tori, la bine ca \u015fi la r\u0103u, \u00eencep\u00e2nd cu Conu Alecu \u2013 tat\u0103l \u2013 \u015fi Coana Eliza \u2013 mama \u015fi \u00eencheind cu \u00eentregul \u015fir al celor \u015fapte fii \u015fi fiice r\u0103ma\u015fi atunci \u00een via\u0163\u0103, din doisprezece c\u00e2\u0163i fuseser\u0103 la \u00eenceput cu to\u0163i: Iulian, ajuns locotenent \u2013 colonel \u00een armat\u0103, Tache, inspector \u00een Direc\u0163ia Po\u015ftelor, Iorgu, maior (geam\u0103n cu Madelena), apoi Victoria, Ioan \u015fi Zoe, cea mai mic\u0103 din to\u0163i copiii, urm\u00e2nd imediat dup\u0103 nuvelist.<\/p>\n<p>Temperamentul vesel \u015fi dispus spre glum\u0103 al tuturor fra\u0163ilor, purcedea \u00een deosebi de la mam\u0103, n\u0103scut\u0103 Boteanu, din familia de militari bine cunoscu\u0163i \u015fi aprecia\u0163i ai Botenilor, c\u0103tre sf\u00e2r\u015fitul veacului trecut.<\/p>\n<p>Femeie cult\u0103, educatoare de m\u00e2na \u00eent\u00e2i, c\u0103l\u0103uz\u0103 f\u0103r\u0103 seam\u0103n a unei gospod\u0103rii destul de \u00eenc\u0103rcate \u015fi greu de c\u00e2rmuit mai ales \u00een Capital\u0103, numai cu pensia \u015fi f\u0103r\u0103 nici o alt\u0103 avere. Bine \u00eenzestrat\u0103 cu \u00eensu\u015firi superioare, \u00eentre care \u015fi darul povestirii, ea \u00ee\u015fi deprinsese copiii de mici s\u0103 prind\u0103 dragoste de c\u0103r\u0163ile bune \u015fi s\u0103 le pre\u0163uiasc\u0103 mai \u00eenainte de orice.<\/p>\n<p>Dintre b\u0103ie\u0163i, Iulian, cel mai mare, s-a \u00eendep\u0103rtat de la \u00eenceput de cas\u0103, t\u00e2r\u00e2t prin \u0163ar\u0103 de nevoile carierei militare ce-\u015fi alesese. De asemenea \u015fi cel de-al doilea, Dimitrie (Tache) \u00eensurat de timpuriu.<\/p>\n<p>R\u0103m\u00e2nea acas\u0103 al treilea frate \u2013 tot ofi\u0163er \u2013 Iorgu, el \u00eensu\u015fi cu veleit\u0103\u0163i de scriitor, public\u00e2nd prin 1885 versuri \u015fi proz\u0103 la \u201eRevista Literar\u0103\u201d a lui Th. M. Stoenescu, sub semn\u0103tura \u00eentreag\u0103, sau sub pseudonimul Galba. Fire optimist\u0103, \u00eembr\u0103c\u00e2nd totul \u00een mantaua trandafirie a glumei, \u00eenv\u0103\u0163ase nu numai pe ai casei cum s\u0103 r\u00e2d\u0103 inofensiv \u015fi frumos, f\u0103r\u0103 g\u00e2nd de batjocur\u0103 sau de vexare, dar \u015fi pe mul\u0163i prieteni. \u015ei ace\u015ftia \u00eel c\u0103utau ca pe o buruian\u0103 de leac, pentru darul lui de a \u00eenviora atmosfera, ca o diminea\u0163\u0103 vesel\u0103 de mai.<\/p>\n<p>Felul acesta de a ironiza, f\u0103r\u0103 ac \u015fi f\u0103r\u0103 brici, reiese mai din toat\u0103 satirele lui I. A. Bassarabescu. Titu Maiorescu i-a spus-o de mai multe ori.<\/p>\n<p>\u201eD-ta te deosebe\u015fti radical de Caragiale, care \u00ee\u015fi urm\u0103rea \u2013 cu ironia lui \u2013 victimele, p\u00e2n\u0103 la cruzime\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u015ei da ca exemplu tipic cazul lui Bubico, azv\u00e2rlit \u2013 s\u0103rmanul c\u0103\u0163el \u2013 la sf\u00e2r\u015fitul schi\u0163ei, pe fereastra vagonului \u015fi umpl\u00e2nd de groaz\u0103 pe cititori.<\/p>\n<p>\u201eDumneata \u2013 spunea marele critic scriitorului \u00eenc\u0103 t\u00e2n\u0103r pe atunci &#8211; e\u015fti bun \u015fi iert\u0103tor cu eroii d-tale. Ni-i a\u015fezi \u00eentr-o lumin\u0103 care ne face s\u0103 r\u00e2dem cu poft\u0103; \u015fi totu\u015fi \u00eei menajezi cu mil\u0103. Asta r\u0103sare din firea d-tale bun\u0103 \u015fi apar\u0163ine fondului operei d-tale. Ironizezi, \u00eens\u0103 nu te \u00eenduri s\u0103-\u0163i ba\u0163i joc. Sim\u0163i c\u0103 sl\u0103biciunile oamenilor apar\u0163in unui subcon\u015ftient nevinovat; iar d-ta \u00eel consta\u0163i numai, f\u0103r\u0103 s\u0103-l zgudui\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>*<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Cas\u0103 deschis\u0103, cu b\u0103ie\u0163i \u015fi fete iubitori de muzic\u0103 \u015fi de dans. Pe dinaintea ochilor scriitorului \u2013 \u00eenc\u0103 licean pe atunci \u2013 se perindau nenum\u0103rate exemplare \u2013 rude sau prieteni \u2013 de fel de fel de v\u00e2rste \u015fi dimensiuni corporale \u015fi intelectuale, cu diferite \u00eensu\u015firi \u015fi cusururi, pe care minte d-sale de observator le \u00eenregistra trec\u00e2ndu-le prin filtrul talentului, ca \u2026 bune pentru mai t\u00e2rziu.<\/p>\n<p>C\u00e2nd Maiorescu l-a invitat pentru \u00eent\u00e2ia oar\u0103 la mas\u0103, \u00een momentul c\u00e2nd intrau \u00een sala de m\u00e2ncare, s-a adresat d-nei Maiorescu, z\u00e2mbind:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Ana, te rog, bag\u0103 de seam\u0103 dac\u0103 toate lucrurile sunt la locul lor, \u00een ordine, c\u0103ci d. Bassarabescu observ\u0103 cea mai mic\u0103 neregul\u0103 \u015fi ne pune \u00eentr-o schi\u0163\u0103\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Humorul lui Bassarabescu nu e totu\u015fi o simpl\u0103 nota\u0163ie \u00eent\u00e2mpl\u0103toare \u015fi trec\u0103toare, ci rezultanta unui studiu \u00eendelungat, sprijinit pe talent \u015fi stabilind categoric hotarul dintre cotidian, care place dar se uit\u0103, \u015fi literatur\u0103, care consacr\u0103 \u015fi r\u0103m\u00e2ne. Poate de aceea opera d-lui Bassarabescu nu e prea \u00eentins\u0103; iar d-sa n-a putut s-o mercantilizeze niciodat\u0103.<\/p>\n<p>Hotarul de care vorbesc trece neobservat de foarte mult\u0103 lume. El e mai pu\u0163in vizibil chiar dec\u00e2t indicatoarele puse de-a lungul frontierelor conven\u0163ionale. \u015ei totu\u015fi el exist\u0103 \u015fi e indispensabil existen\u0163ei \u015fi duratei operei literare autentice, \u00eentocmai ca imperceptibilele glande hipofize sau cele suprarenale pentru \u00eentre\u0163inerea \u015fi durata organismelor animale.<\/p>\n<p>Acest hotar exist\u0103 \u015fi face mult s\u00e2nge r\u0103u celui ce nu-l vede \u015fi nu-l pricepe, \u00eenchipuindu-\u015fi c\u0103, pentru a fi bun pictor, e destul s\u0103 exclame: \u201eAnch\u2019 io son\u2019 poeta!\u201d (\u015ei eu sunt poet!).<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>I. A. Bassarabescu nu e un umorist de duzin\u0103, ci de durat\u0103, un me\u015fter m\u00e2nuitor al umorului \u00een literatur\u0103.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Nu \u00eenf\u0103\u0163i\u015fez \u00eens\u0103 aici toate laturile unei opere ca aceea a maestrului Bassarabescu.
